North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) officials suggest that the US defense planners are struggling to close considerable gaps in defenses against the prospect of terrorist strikes by cruise missiles. The top defensive priority is to acquire the ability to see cruise missiles coming, a capability that requires a combination of technologies and organizations working together.

New aerial tanker decision edges closer

The Department of Defense (DOD) is conducting a clean decision-making process on the Darleen Druyun scandal on upgrading or replacing the fleet of KC-135 aerial refueling tankers. Druyun, the former Air Force assistant secretary for acquisition, was sentenced nine-months in prison on a conspiracy charge for showing favoritism to Boeing.
