On test: Star Practice Master System
Article Abstract:
Star Computer Group's Practice Master System (PMS) is an accounting software package that runs on the UNIX system on Unisys equipment. PMS is written in Accell, a fourth generation language, and uses the industry standard Structured Query language. PMS is a modular system using a single data base so that applications are fully integrated and a single entry updates all the modules at once. PMS has had trouble meeting the target dates of launching additional modules for the system, and the system has been released slowly and is still not complete. PMS exhibits great flexibility to change and customize the software, is comprehensive, and is very user-friendly. However, PMS suffers from a lack of documentation, but the training and support provided by Star Computer Group is good and the company has an understanding of the accountancy market. The main attraction of PMS will be that an accounting firm's operations can be fully integrated so that data need be entered only once. A four-user PMS license starts at 7,500 pounds sterling and a full program with all modules for four users costs 14,000 pounds sterling.
