Online auctions net retailers worldwide sales
Article Abstract:
eBay has grown from a Website for selling collectible Pez candy dispensers into the world's biggest online auction site, with total sales worth $2.8 billion in 1999. For instance, eBay registered 35,693 auctions for photographic items on Aug 11, 2000, compared with 4,366 for Yahoo and 388 for Amazon. However, some auction sites have features not found on eBay. Amazon allows sellers to simultaneously place items in more than one category while other sites offer a single insertion fee regardless of the opening bid.
