Packaging
Article Abstract:
Packaging designs deserve merit for functionalism and for being conceptually different. In the late 1990s packaging trend tilts toward simple typography and simple shapes, with an absence of excess labelling or packaging. Be it book jackets, perfumes, contact lens or pencils, all are minimalist in structure. While CD-Rom packages suffer from inflated packaging and need downsizing, in-store packaging shows a dearth of originality. Aquablock, a water bottle, wins the Best of Category award for its elegance, functionalism, and minimalist packaging.

Packaging
Article Abstract:
Best of Category in packaging in the 39th Annual Design Review went to the Alfred A. Knopf design team for its book covers. The judges looked for simplicity, utility, and consistency. Environmental responsibility was apparent in many entries, and only one winner, Prince's compact disc cover, was distinctly flashy. Other compact disc covers won several awards; the rest went to packaging for such consumer products as children's drinks, eyewear, bicycle accessories, lamps, telephones, and soaps.
