Paddling their own canoes
Article Abstract:
Investors are likely to become more selective in the wake of the Mexican financial crisis, and a similar bail-out is unlikely to occur. There is more emphasis on the need for economic, political and social stability in countries chosen by investors. There is also more caution about US interest rate policy. There are doubts that Mexico can reform its policy, and neoclassical theory has been challenged. Free-market theory does not place enough emphasis on local conditions such as economic and social structures.
