Pessimist's charter
Article Abstract:
Business organizations can improve their chances of survival through disaster and business recovery planning. Data from the UK Dept of Trade and Industry indicate that around 50% of all businesses hit by a catastrophe and lacking an effective business recovery plan will collapse within a year. A good plan provides an organization with guidelines on how to deal with a wide variety of disasters, and includes the necessary information to allow the business to continue operating as soon as possible. Insurance companies offer a number of computer software designed to help managers plan for disasters, whether the sudden illness of a key employee, a severe flood or an unexpected tornado. However, small companies that cannot afford sophisticated and costly solutions can easily develop plans of their own. Planning techniques are offered.

Positively passive
Article Abstract:
Passivities of Daily Living (PDL) is a novel approach to caring for chronically ill, passive patients. The Dutch scheme consists of various strategies, skills and provisions aimed at providing optimal nursing care and support for patients who cannot look after themselves. PDL consists of seven factors relating to feeding, washing, sitting, lying down, dressing, changing and transferring. PDL is based on the belief that a positive approach to passiveness leads to constructive results. PDL has been shown to reduce the strain on helpers, boost job satisfaction and alleviate tension in patients.
