Ecuador has a poor economic record having experienced years of economic crisis and instabilty, and is therefore not a likely prospect for investment, but now there seems to be some hope for the South American country. Ecuador's new president, Gustavo Noboa, is focusing on his policies of modernisation, dollarisation, foreign investment, privatisation, and fiscal and economic reform, to develop a more stable economy in his country.

Issues are presented concerning the loyalty which is shown by bank customers to their banks. The Consumers' Association have estimated that only 2% of customers with current accounts move to a different bank each year.
