Plan for 313-vessel fleet raises questions: Some ship classes lacking
Article Abstract:
The Naval concept of the 313-vessel armada is amidst doldrums and is facing questions being raised, as to if the Congress would fund the strong naval fleet, which intends to increase its fleet as well as class of ships. An increase in fleet numbers from 281 and submarines numbers is planned with cruisers capable of shooting down intercontinental ballistic missiles fired from other countries.

CNO sees ways to cut shipbuilding needs
Article Abstract:
Adm. Vern Clark, chief of naval operation reported that the number of ships Navy must buy might reduce due to crew rotation, increased vessel readiness, longer gun range, and forward deployment. The fleet contains 295 ships and submarines and needs to buy 80 vessel, plus more to replace old craft as they are retired.
