Portable processing power
Article Abstract:
Portable computers are becoming increasingly popular information storage devices for accountants. These electronic gadgets range from the simple digital diaries, laptop computers, and electronic notepads, to the more sophisticated notebook computers. These worktools act as convenient personal organizers for the international business traveller. Auditors and accountants are given the ease of carrying with them loads of client data anywhere on systems that have a storage capacity of from 640 kilobytes to 60 megabytes. It is also possible to link these portables to the head office or to other corporate systems for quick transfer or retrieval of financial data. Another convenience feature of portables are their dual ability to run on either direct current or on batteries in a range of voltages and frequencies. Some of the latest models of portables and their manufacturers are discussed.

What does the future hold for cable?
Article Abstract:
There are currently 135 cable franchises in the UK, 36 of which have reached the operational stage. The primary source for capital for UK cable firms is the US investment community, which controls 95% of the UK cable industry. The review of the telecommunications duopoly enjoyed by British Telecom and Mercury likely will give cable operators the chance to provide telecommunications services in the future. Operators can provide local connections to other telephone networks, an opportunity being exploited by Mercury. The ability to offer telecommunications services will improve the economic viability of cable companies, many of which are turning to North American telephone companies for expertise.
