Private investors left out in the cold
Article Abstract:
Private investors in stocks tend to face disadvantages compared to institutional investors in the United Kingdom. There are some 16 million small investors in the UK, with privatizations and demutualizations having doubled the figure in the two years to 1998. Private investors often face problems in obtaining information, though smaller companies tend to be more helpful in providing information than larger firms. Private investors may also lack access to companies' initial fund raisings.

Low standards plaugue Ofex
Article Abstract:
The Ofex trading facility may seek stricter compliance requirements. There are 111 companies that use Ofex and their value has been estimated at 1.4 billion pounds sterling. Fuller guidelines would help Ofex's reputation. There is concern that Ofex is not regulated and that not enough information reaches investors in a timely fashion. One company has yet to publish a report although seven months have elapsed since its financial year has ended.
