Putting their money where their mouth is
Article Abstract:
Investment trusts can be affected by management changes though there should be some continuity from the board which gives more stability than unit trusts enjoy. The departure of a popular manager may affect the share price of an investment trust. Ivory and Sime's John Dodds left with his team to set up their own business in Christmas 1996 and this illustrates the way that trusts can be affected. Investors should assess whether managers are likely to leave. Some houses tend to have more management stability than average, such as Henderson Investors.

The trick of tracking
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom index trackers have become increasingly popular, and the same is true in the US due to disillusionment with active management. Most trackers are unit trusts in the United Kingdom, though there are also five investment trusts providing tracking. Investment trust trackers may be cheaper to run than unit trust trackers. Fees are important in this market. There are new possibilities which have yet to be explored such as split capital indexed trusts and geared indexed trusts.
