Railtrack
Article Abstract:
Railtrack has been affected both by calls for a focus on safety, and by a need to maximise stockholder profits. The market has reacted well to the company's investment plans. A Regulatory Review will be finalized in Jul 2000, and the investment plans are seen as a way to make the regulator view the company favorably. Deutsche Bank rates the company's stocks a buy, as does Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette, while Commerzbank rates them a hold, with uncertainty over the regulatory position.

Railtrack
Article Abstract:
Railtrack is the owner of the railroad infrastructure in the United Kingdom, and has seen a rise in its stock price since the company was floated in 1996. There are questions as to how far the stocks can continue to rise, and the attitude of the industry regulator is important. Railtrack has to achieve performance targets and its charges are related to performance and are scheduled to decrease to 2001. Maintenance requirements will reduce operational cash flow. Tighter performance targets couldaffect the company.
