Article Abstract:
UK personal equity plans (Peps) were launched in 1986 and initially sought to encourage direct investment by offering tax breaks. Peps offer a tax shelter and are more flexible than pensions which also have major tax advantages. Peps are available to UK residents over 18 years old. There is a limit of 6,000 pounds sterling for investing in general Peps. Peps can include a range of investments such as unit trusts, corporate bonds and UK shares.
