Real accounts on the Sinclair QL - can it be true
Article Abstract:
The QL microcomputer from Sinclair Research Ltd. (Great Britain) has been available long enough that its price has dropped from 399 pounds sterling to 199 pounds sterling. The computer is contained within a QWERTY keyboard, weighs less than 3 pounds, and employs a 16-32 bit 68008 microprocessor from Motorola, with 1-megabit of memory and 48Kbytes of random access memory. Software bundled with the QL computer provides word processing, recordkeeping, modeling and graphics capabilities. New software programs reviewed include QL Home Finance (for maintaining personal financial accounts), QL Cash Trader (a small business accounting program), and QL Integrated Accounts (for double entry accounting). Each of these receives a favorable review. The lack of popularity of the Sinclair QL and its software is attributed to the businessman's mistrust of lower-priced computer products.

A new computer system for R.S. Clare Ltd
Article Abstract:
A new computer system, the North Star Dimension, was given as a prize by Accountancy magazine to Cecil Taylor, who donated it to R.S. Clare Ltd. in Liverpool, a family business started in 1748 by Richard Clare, involved in the manufacture of durable thermoplastic road-marking materials. These materials are now produced as a powder, and heat is no longer required during manufacture. The company also produces grease and lubricants. The company exports its products in 25 countries, and subsidiary companies handle exports and local contracts. The new computer system will handle all the financial requirements of high-volume production and will replace the Philips and Apple systems used by the company. Installation aspects are briefly discussed.
