Rebuilding after acquisition blow
Article Abstract:
EBC is a United Kingdom construction and real estate group which acquired NR Humphreys in Dec 1999. Accounting irregularities meant that Humphreys reported a loss for 1st half 1999. There should be an improvement in 2nd half 1999, and EBC is taking action against the vendors of Humphreys. The company's orders have increased, and real estate profits should be up for 2nd half 1999. The company is also involved in building components. EBC's profit is forecast at 1.5 million pounds sterling for 1999 including Humphreys, and 1.8 million pounds excluding Humphreys, according to Teather and Greenood.

Countryside properties
Article Abstract:
Countryside Properties has performed well in operating terms despite a drop in its stock price. The company has a strong land bank with a low ratio in terms of selling price, and Countryside Properties should benefit from strong demand for housing. The company faces difficulties in its social housing division, and land acquired at the peak of a previous boom has depressed return on capital. The social housing division does help the company in dealing with planners.
