Reid says U.K. still committed to JSF, 'most effective airplanes'
Article Abstract:
The UK is all set to buy one version of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), the future combat platform being developed with the UK, the US and other multinational funding. John Reid, the UK secretary of state for defence, has stated that the JSF meets most of the requirements of the UK for the first-rate fighters to fly from the decks of two new aircraft carriers and hence the UK will proceed with the plans to procure those huge carriers.

England: More C17s may be bought; tanker/transport planes needed now
Article Abstract:
The Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England has stated that the US Air Force might have to buy more than 180 C-17 transport planes as most of the C-17s are wearing out rapidly in war. The adjustment might be made in the budget for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2008, but the Air Force is unlikely to reduce a program to modernize C-5 transport planes in favor of buying still more C-17 transports from the Boeing Co.

McCain warns against rushing to acquire tankers
Article Abstract:
Arizona Senator John McCain has criticized the officials and congressional appropriators who are in favor of taking a swift action on the tanker acquisition program because he feels that there is no rationale that justifies the hurry in purchasing 100 aerial refueling planes. He also pointed out that a series of studies indicate that the urgency displayed for acquiring tanker aircraft is not needed.
