Article Abstract:
Chartered accountants should know not only the contents of the CICA Handbook but also those of the Member's Handbook. The Foreword to the Rules of Professional Conduct in the Member's Handbook is essential reading for practitioners because it gives them the six basic guiding principles in the conduct of their profession. Among the principles are the protection of the secrecy of data on clients, the adherence to a code of ethics in relating with other accountants and the practice of utmost objectivity in making judgments.
