Resource crisis in Ghana
Article Abstract:
Efforts to develop the accountancy profession in Ghana are being hampered by the scarcity of needed resources. The education and training of future accountants are being undermined by the lack of quality and appropriate textbooks and study manuals. In addition, despite its adequate educational infrastructure, Ghana is suffering from a shortage of qualified teachers. Universities and polytechnics offer low salaries, thereby prompting accountants to go into practice or industry. The Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) has been trying to resolve this problem by inviting foreign teachers to the country. It has also be exploring the idea of creating university chairs sponsored by major accounting firms, but response to this proposed solution has been lukewarm.

The answer to technology
Article Abstract:
Accountants should be prepared for questions on technology that cover technology change and the impact of technology on organizational structure. Technology exists on three levels, namely, apparatus, technique and organization. Technological change links the three levels, as some changes in one level can lead to changes in others. Technology has several broad implications for society and the economy, such as the potential increase in production and productivity. Questions on technology and organization structure are best dealt with by addressing the key issues they cover, including span of control, chain of command and coordination of different activities, and then demonstrating how technology changes them.
