Reverse mergers attract top-tier biotechs in sluggish IPO market

Private biotechs and even a few top-tier private companies are announcing reverse mergers in 2006 as the valuations and market performance have plummeted and several biotech companies have little chance at an initial public offering (IPO). With the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) tightening rules, reverse mergers have become validated as a way of raising funds.

Biotechs await IPO 'boomlet'

Several US based biotechs announced initial public offerings (IPO), which resulted in private funds and venture capitalists locked into biotech investments. Most analysts are of the opinion that the boom in biotech is likely to be strictly limited to firms with products that are nearing market approval.
