Risk of too little risk
Article Abstract:
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) poses damage on corporate risk-taking as a recent study showed that U.S. companies have reduced research and development (R&D) and capital spending and increased their cash holdings since the passage of SOX. A research paper comparing U.S. and U.K. companies, with regard to capital expenditures, assets and R&D, is discussed. The academics also found that U.S. companies' total risk has fallen as compared with U.K. counterparts.
