Roker roars to market
Article Abstract:
Sunderland soccer club plans a share issue. The club has been promoted to the UK Premier League, and recently promoted clubs are most vulnerable to losing their place in the league. A position in the Premier League will help the club to boost ticket sales and revenue from merchandising, but sponsors are already committed and the club can survive losing its place. Sunderland forecasts a profit of 3.65 million pounds sterling for the 1996 to 1997 season prior to transfer fees.

Villa's solid performance
Article Abstract:
Aston Villa is carrying out a 25 million pounds sterling stock flotation and has delayed this until after a febrile interest in soccer club stocks has subsided. This should allow the stocks to perform better following the flotation. The club has potential for expansion and income should be boosted by a number of factors such as payments from TV broadcasting. There is still concern about the impact of players' salaries on costs since the wage bill has risen sharply.
