Round and round
Article Abstract:
Stock prices of smaller companies have not performed as well as larger firms in the 12 months to Jun 1997. This has occurred both in the UK and in the US, and the trend could change as price of smaller company stocks become more attractive. The UK will need some changes in currency values if manufacturing firms, represented among medium firms, are to see an improvement in their stock price performance. Earnings could be improving for smaller companies which should help their stock prices.

An end to equity investors' free lunch
Article Abstract:
UK investors have traditionally tended to obtain better returns from equities because risk levels are higher. Shares have become safer investments with higher returns, which is likely to attract more funds to this market, and boost the attractions of index-trakers. It is unclear whether this trend will persist. Historically, stocks are not safe investments over long periods, and an increase in volatility to Mar 1996 could indicate that share prices are likely to fall.
