Going for e-broke
Article Abstract:
Online stock trading is offered by 15 British brokers, and investors should bear in mind a number of factors when selecting a broker. Initial offers for commission-free dealing may not be the best route to choosing a broker. Efficiency, speed of settlement, and whether separate accounts are needed to fund trading are also important issues. There is a wide range of charges, and charges are likely to drop as volume increases. Direct links to the Stock Exchange handling systems brings immediacy and certainty, but experienced dealers can sometimes negotiate price improvements.

Net profits
Article Abstract:
Internet stockbroking has become common in the United States, and could also spread in the United Kingdom, although UK brokers see clients as conservative. UK customers do not benefit from cheaper dealing when using the internet, but they do not face waiting on the phone and having to listen to piped music. There may be communication problems if e-mails are not answered rapidly. Security issues are not more of a problem using the internet than they are with phone-based services.
