Shopkeepers' woes spur new profit pessimism

UK retailers have performed poorly in 1994, as is illustrated by Kingfisher and House of Fraser, and this has affected their share prices. There is concern that Kingfisher may be too diverse, while House of Fraser has had to close some stores. Dalepak Foods may be affected by a reorganization following the acquisition of the frozenmeats business of Ross Young. Brokers forecast an improvementfor Taunton Cider despite interim results which did not fulfil expectations.
