Skoda Auto sees profit over CEK 3 bil

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), automotive company, expects its sales to increase by 3-5% in 2001 compared to 2000. Its sales rose by 13% in 2000 compared to 1999. The drop of the tempo should be a consequence of a decline in demand on the most important export and domestic markets. The firm wants to produce more than 1,900 cars per day in 2001, about 100 pieces more compared to 2000. It should end the production of the model Felicia and utility vehicles in Jun 2001. The firm should complete the construction of an engine plant with a capacity of 500,000 engines and gearboxes per year by the summer of 2001. The company sold a total of 435,000 cars in 2000. About 81,000 cars of the quantity were sold on the domestic market. SA's proceeds increased by 23% to CEK 136 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. Its exports generated CEK 112 bil in 2000. Its net profit amounted to CEK 3.3 bil in 2000, 27% more compared to 1999. About 30% of the firm's total production was represented by the model type Felicia, 36% by Octavia and 30% by Fabia in 2000.

Diamo decreased its costs by one-fifth in 2000

Diamo (Straz pod Ralskem, Czech Republic), uranium extraction company, decreased its costs by 20% to CEK 2.8 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 3.6 bil in 1999. According to preliminary results, the firm saw a total loss of CEK 214.3 mil in 2000. The 2000 loss was one-third lower compared to 1999. The state firm Diamo is involved mainly in the damping and liquidation of extraction and the processing of uranium ore.

Kovohute Mnisek increases revenues

Kovohute Mnisek (Mnisek pod Brdy, Czech Republic), metallurgy firm, saw revenues of CEK 2.589 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 1.862 bil in 1999. The firm generated an operating profit of CEK 11.906 mil in 2000 compared to a loss of CEK 9.867 mil in 1999. The company is the largest Czech aluminium waste processor.
