A 'low-key' task force battles roadside bombs
Article Abstract:
The attempts by the US Army to tackle the problem of "improvised explosive devices" (IEDS) in Iraq and Afghanistan, which range from comparatively primitive roadside bombs to devices triggered by cell phone or pager signals are presented. An "IED Task Force" with members from all the services has been set up whose brief is to study the full spectrum of the IED problem focusing not only on the existing IEDs but also on who makes and finances them and how deployed forces can more successfully intercept them.
