Solid foundation
Article Abstract:
Wainhomes suffered a drop in pre-tax profit of 79% to 2.1 million pounds sterling in Mar 1995 to Mar 1996 but results have improved in the half year since Mar 1996. The company's Northern region saw a rise in costs and the Midland division was affected by teething problems in 1995 to 1996 but the performance of the two divisions has improved. Demand is strengthening which is lessening the need for incentives. The company's profit is forecast at 6.5 million pounds sterling in 1996 to 1997 by NatWest. Profits could increase to 7.5 million pounds for 1997 to 1998.

Strong base
Article Abstract:
Galliford is a United Kingdom housebuilder and construction company which acquired Midas Homes in Dec 1997. The company saw a profit shortfall for 1st half 1997 to 1998 due to delays in a project. Housebuying tends to be stronger in spring each year so the figures for the second half should be better. The company could achieve a rise in profit to 2.8 million pounds sterling for 1997 to 1998 compared with 1.3 million pounds for the previous year.
