Southern Electric reported a rise in operating profit to 119 million pounds sterling from 112 million pounds for the six months to Sep 30 1996, but pre-tax profit was affected by interest charges. The company plans a share buy-back involving a 10% stake. Electricity usage has increased and costs have been reduced which has helped distribution results. The company's profits from supply have risen from 7.1 million pounds from 11 million pounds. The company's profit is forecast at some 280 million pounds for 1996 to 1997.
