Britain agricultural farmers are facing various issues such as falling profits, increased capital expenditure and a rapidly aging workforce, with barely 50 percent of farms having succession in place. The new proposals for a system where the government can take the money spent on the subsidy and use it for a range of rural enterprise support, is needed.

After deregulation, OFGEM, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, was formed to regulate the gas and electricity markets in the UK, following which NETA, New Electricity Trading Arrangement, and NGTA, New Gas Trading Arrangement, were also formed, to aid consumers to pay lower rates. This has led to competition in the market of energy trading.
