Spirit of adventure
Article Abstract:
Venture capital and buy-outs are the two key areas that have emerged in the United Kingdom private equity market. Buy-outs became popular from the mid-1980s, though some deals encountered problems in the early 1990s. Risks can be reduced by investing through funds with professional management. Investment trusts are more appropriate than unit trusts since valuations may be difficult, and unquoted investments tend to be illiquid. The United Kingdom venture and development sector is comprised of 21 investment trusts.

A clutch of trusts venture forth
Article Abstract:
UK venture capital trusts are being launched in early 1996 and are geared to attract investors with capital gains to invest prior to the end of the tax year. Investors without a major tax liability from capital gains may be better advised to use trusts which have lower risk levels, and venture capital trusts should not be chosen simply because they have tax advantages. Investors should assess how much experience the trust manager has and the quality of investments that can be attracted by the manager.
