A sporting goods retailing industry report in 1998 has indicated an over-saturation of retail space with capacity reaching a high of 263.2 million square feet of new space in the past. The report from the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association said an average of ten new regional malls will open each year until 2000. The new malls expected to be built measure 14% larger than the average malls opened during the previous four years. The trend is reported to be in the direction of lesser but larger sporting goods operations running more outlets.

Unique wildlife artistry displays set Cabela's new store apart

Cabela's new store in Dundee, MI, has museum-like dioramas, sculpture and wild-game trophies. Visitors to the store get to see the world's largest bronze wildlife sculpture made by former Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Mike Hamby. The store's centerpiece is a 40-ft tall, two-story mountain with running waterfalls, 60-foot streams and a trout pond. It also has a 65,000-gallon walk-through aquarium stocked with freshwater fish.
