Stuart Davis, graphic designer?
Article Abstract:
The late Stuart Davis was one of few Modernist painters whose works have an uncanny semblance to graphic design. These works were born out of his desire to transform the various elements of three-dimensional design into a two-dimensional palette of shapes and colors. Davis was also influenced by socialist ideology and also wrote considerably about his political opinions. His works, however, betray his political leanings as they showcase the multifarous elements found only in an industrialized world. The stark simplicity of his works seem to be buried underneath the complex presentations which he employs.

Blue Note style
Article Abstract:
Reid Miles was the album cover designer for Blue Note Records from 1956 to 1967 and his distinctive album designs has earned for him the distinction of being one of the best album cover designers in the industry. Miles' works were characterized by European-influenced formalism, creative use of type, ingeniously cropped photographs and minimal use of color. His designs became more radical as he tried to match the new directions that jazz took in the mid-1960s. He left Blue Note when it was acquired by Capitol Records, and his designs have never matched the quality of his earlier works since then.
