Surviving the gales of creative destruction: The determinants of product turnover
Article Abstract:
A model is structured to link the product entry and exit decisions to the broader literature on firm strategic and product management, by using hazard rate models and count regression models to describe the behaviour of firms and their products with a new and detailed database on the laser printer industry. It is observed that competition both slows product entry and speeds product exit and that the innovative capability of the firm as reflected in its stock of knowledge increases the incidence of entry.
