Takeovers can spell trouble
Article Abstract:
Takeovers can affect the performance of unit trusts and investment trusts, and investors may not be aware of this. Pension fund consultants are warier of management companies undergoing mergers. A merger with a fund that is performing badly can affect the performance of the fund which had performed better. Investors should ask a number of questions when takeovers occur, such as whether fund management departments are to be merged, and whether a new manager is to be appointed to the investor's fund.

Bidders line up
Article Abstract:
There are 10 investment groups seeking to control Kleinwort European Privatisation Investment Trust (Kepit). Kepit is managed by Kleinwort Benson which has proposed converting Kepit to a unit trust. Some shareholders have criticised Kepit since not all submissions have been made public. Kepit will recommended a plan to shareholders after it has studied those on offer. This excludes investors from studying all the proposals though two have been made public, including Kleinwort's.

Kepit fight goes into extra time
Article Abstract:
Henderson's Treg trust is bidding for Kleinwort European Privatization (Kepit) but is unlikely to succeed. Kepit and M and G have made a joint proposal and Kepit recommends this bid, arguing that it is worth more per share. Investors can benefit from a number of offers reducing fees if they seek to sell Kepit shares and reinvest. They may wish to invest in general European funds rather than privatization funds and could choose the European unit trust from Old Mutual.
