Tax: Going flat out
Article Abstract:
The Adam Smith Institute, with a view to simplify the complexities of the UK tax system, has proposed a simple flat rate system. Under the proposal, all income up to 12,000 pounds would be tax-free and all income after that would be taxed at 22%. Advocates for the new system emphasize that it would be fairer, cheaper to administer, and would provide stimulus to economic growth. Opponents argue that the flat rate system would lead to a 10% reduction in tax revenue.
