Keywords: Accounting research, Banking, International business, USA The study identifies several important factors that determine the level of foreign banking activity in the U.S.: (1) the size of the banking sector in the foreign country, (2) credit market conditions in the foreign country, (3) the size of the foreign direct investment in the U.S., (4) the level of foreign trade between the U.S. and the foreign country, (5) the foreign exchange value of the dollar, and (6) the relative size of the loan-deposit rate spread.
