Digital imaging 101: file formats
Article Abstract:
The wrong file format may cause a digital image to appear as a blank space on the computer monitor. There are certain Web browsers that can read only all digital formats by using a supplemental plug-in. For instance, the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator can only read the JPEG and GIF formats. JPEG accepts 8-bit grayscale and 24-bit color images and compresses data to conserve space on the camera's memory card or the computer's hard drive. However, JPEG suffers from poor image quality when the compression is greater.
