The Interpretation of Materiality in Financial Reporting
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales' (ICAEW) Members Handbook Statement 2.401, 'The Interpretation of Materiality in Financing Reporting,' provides guidance to preparers of financial statements on the interpretation and application of the concept of materiality as defined by the Accounting Standards Board (ASB). The Statement is in fact partially based on the ASB's draft 'Statement of Principles for Financial Reporting' and may be revised if the final version of the draft Statement incorporates substantial changes. The ICAEW Statement is intended to be applied primarily to the financial reports of commercial companies, although it is also applicable to the financial statements and other disclosures by charities, government agencies, public sector companies, local authorities, pension schemes and other organizations.
