The art market: continental silver
Article Abstract:
The market for silverware from mainland Europe saw a rise of 280% between 1975 and 1990, dropping by 15% in the three following years, then rising by 20% in 1994 to 280%. This is slower growth than the market for English silver which has risen by 475% and which enjoys popularity in the US. Supply has risen due to burglaries. French silverware from before the 1789 Revolution is rare, so commands high prices. Silver prices fell from 1980 after an attempt to keep prices high, and this affected perceptions of silver as an investment.

The art market: Andy Warhol
Article Abstract:
The price of works by Andy Warhol has increased from an average of 2,900 pounds sterling to 9,600 pounds in the 20 years to 1995. A number of his works have been bought for millions of pounds, but production levels were high. This could mean that prices will fall, or that a large market in his works could prosper. Short-term prospects are good due to a revival of interest in the works of US painters, but in the longer term some underperformance seems likely.

There was a drop of 65% to 1992, and a rise in 1993 of 17% which ended in 1994.
