The compatibility of domestic birds with a nonchemical agroecosystem
Article Abstract:
A study of the compatibility of chickens and geese with a nonchemical agroecosystem shows that although these domestic birds are compatible with the system, they furnished various benefits and had various requirements. The omnivorous nature of the chickens, their increased activity throughout the day, and traversing the entire available area are revealed in the study. On the other hand, geese exhibited a strictly herbivorous nature and were less active and remained within the vicinity of their coop and water source.

Insect pests and management technologies in dryland wheat in Washington
Article Abstract:
A biorational-based insect pest management approach can effectively control insect pests, mainly aphids, in dryland wheat farming in Washington. The approach includes developing a germplasm base resistant to Russian wheat aphid and Hessian fly, assessing cropping systems' impact on pest populations, and developing biological control as the basic approach. Conservation tillage also helps in controlling aphid population, but is not as effective as the treatment of seeds by the insecticide imidacloprid.

Effects of free-range chickens and geese on insect pests and weeds in an agroecosystem
Article Abstract:
Geese are better biological control agents than chicken, and decrease damage to apples and plums by removing weeds that harbor pests. A study conducted in an experimental chemical-free agroecosystem shows that weeding by geese increases potato tuber production and the number of pest-free fruits. Chicken decrease the number of pests but have no significant effect on weeds, number of damaged fruits and crop production.
