The cost of carefree travel
Article Abstract:
Travellers should review the different types of travel insurance policies available to ensure that they offer sufficient coverage and are priced reasonably. They should also know the types of illnesses or accidents not covered by the policies. The Consumers' Association recently published 'Holiday Which ?' which offers information gathered from a survey of holiday insurance. Some of the information provided by 'Holiday Which ?' include a list of travel policy providers and the minimum levels of coverage they offer in various areas, and the exclusions from these policies. Those travelling to the EC are advised to read the leaflet T2, 'Health Advice for Travellers Inside the European Community,' which may be obtained from any post office. This leaflet instructs would-be travellers how to obtain emergency medical care in the EC. Travellers may also seek the services of an independent insurance broker if they want to get the best travel policy.

Make room for gold in your portfolios
Article Abstract:
As investors become less certain about the prospects for continued economic growth, gold becomes a more popular investment. The possibility of a trade war between the US and Japan, the increased volatility of the securities markets, and the possibility of rising inflation rates have already driven up gold prices. The annual average price for an ounce of gold in 1986 was $368, up from an average of $317 in 1985. During the first six months of 1987, gold has gone as high as $465. The most common form of gold for private investors is gold coins. Shares prices of gold mining companies are also increasing rapidly.
