The cubing of America
Article Abstract:
Office furniture manufacturers are introducing their next generation of workstation cubicles. The workstation was supposed to bring about greater equality between support staff and management by having everyone seated in an open plan. However, workers have hated the workstation because of lost privacy. Herman Miller Inc's new design attempts to address the problem, whereas Steelcase Inc's latest design has no walls at all. Workstation cubicles and their accessories accounted for one third of $7.7 billion in sales that the office furniture industry had in 1990.

The money comes and the money goes in state tourism campaigns
Article Abstract:
State spending levels for tourism advertising in 1992 varied widely, according to a survey conducted by the US Travel Data Center. The spending ups and downs seem to bear no relationship to the effects of the recession. For example, the recession has hit Massachusetts hard, yet the state boosted its tourism budget to slightly more than $9 million, a 69% increase. Other states increasing tourism spending were Louisiana, up 44%; New Mexico, 43%; North Dakota, 37%; and Texas, 31%. States that slashed spending include California and Michigan.
