The effects of speed, frequency, and load on measured hand forces for a floor to knuckle lifting task
Article Abstract:
The forces exerted by the hand when performing floor to knuckle load lifting were experimentally obtained from five subjects using a strain gauge. The hand motions were examined under conditions of varying loads, lift speeds and frequency. Pattern results on the vertical and horizontal components of the hand forces indicate the prevalence of jerking among lifters for both normal and fast speeds.

Manual materials handling capabilities in non-standard postures
Article Abstract:
Several manual materials handling (MMH) experiments conducted at the Ergonomics Laboratory of Texas Tech University are reported. The results are presented as the MMH task capability data on male and female populations for 99 MMH chores carried out under non-standard positions. Some non-standard postures examined are sitting, squatting, kneeling, and load manipulation under low ceiling heights.

Problems and solutions in manual materials handling: the state of the art
Article Abstract:
The worker, task and environment are treated as system components in an ergonomic study of a manual materials handling (MMH) problem related to back injuries. The biomechanical, physiological and psychophysical methods of finding safe capacity limits for MMH are presented along with the derived models. When combined, they form a unified model for setting lifting standards.
