The electronic state of cash management
Article Abstract:
Automation in the area of cash management has resulted in the development of electronic funds transfer systems, direct deposit of employee paychecks, and improved cash flow forecasts. Financial executives from Hallmark Cards, Equitable Life Assurance, Hibernia National Bank and Citizens and Southern National Bank discuss the effects of automation on controllership and cash management responsibilities. These corporate cash managers also answer questions related to: selling upper management on cash management automation techniques (such as the use of an automated clearinghouse system), the low priority cash management receives in comparison to marketing and customer service activities, the economics of automation, cash flow statistics as an indicator of corporate financial health, and relatively new automation products, including corporate trade payment systems and networked personal computers.

Todd Cole on the corporate marriages of CIT

An interview with Todd G. Cole, chairman of CIT Financial Corp., takes a behind the scenes look at the acquisition of CIT by RCA Corporation in 1980, and the subsequent sale of CIT to Manufacturers Hanover Corporation. Cole discusses the motivation for RCA's purchase of CIT, the subsequent parting of the ways, and the objectives of Manufacturers Hanover in acquiring CIT. He also describes his own experiences in making the change from managing a successful, independent company to working to advance the interests of Manufacturers Hanover. Rainer Gut discusses today's changing financial world
Article Abstract:
In an interview, Rainer E. Gut, chairman of Credit Suisse, discusses his years at Lazard Freres, his background in investment banking, and the differences between the U.S. and European banking industries. Gut believes the Europeans have to become more like Americans. The U.S. banking industry is more innovative, having originated the Eurodollar market and the concept of financial futures. Dual currency loans and revolving underwriting facilities are also discussed. Gut recommends restructuring foreign country debt to restore the international credit system.
