The exodus that never happened
Article Abstract:
There were predictions that British firms would leave Hong Kong following the handover to China. The problems that have been faced by British firms have more to do with the Asian economic crisis than the political situation, and the exodus has not occurred. Companies are interested in the potential of the large Chinese market, and this outweighs concerns about human rights and political issues. Some companies have relocated to Singapore since Hong Kong is expensive, and this is especially true since the Hong Kong currency has not been devalued, unlike that of many neighboring countries.

Make the most of merger mania
Article Abstract:
There has been an increase in the number of mergers and acquisitions in the United Kingdom, and stockholders tend to benefit. Agreed bids are agreed by the target company, though it is not always easy to set a value on a company as demand is high. Contested bids involve more than a single bidder, and rivalry can push up the price. Hostile bids also tend to mean a better price for stockholders. Stockholders are advised not to take decisions too hastily because the price may rise.
