The information content of discount rate announcements: what is behind the announcement effect?
Article Abstract:
The observation that shows the market response to announcements of the Federal Reserve on the discount rate which increases asset prices is shown to be governed by the 'announcement effect' principle, where the market merely responds to a new information. This is especially true when the information that can be educed from such an announcement does not entail a change in monetary policy.
