The intentional use of Chapter XI: lingering versus immediate filing
Article Abstract:
Some firms voluntarily chose to file for Chapter XI bankruptcy in order to gain bankruptcy protection from creditors so they can reorganize the firm into a revitalized organization. Firms that voluntarily go into Chapter XI bankruptcy to affect a reorganization show a higher survival rate than those firms that are forced involuntarily in Chapter XI bankruptcy. Financially troubled firms are affected by the environmental adversity and the viability of the firm's attributes. The timing of Chapter XI bankruptcy is critical: when environmental adversity increases, the decision to voluntarily go into Chapter XI bankruptcy before a forced, involuntary filing is critical. Chapter XI bankruptcy allows a firm a temporary respite against environmental adversity by reducing creditor demands and by freeing up the firm's resources.

Global strategic linkages and industry structure
Article Abstract:
A theoretical framework for the structure of strategic linkages in international industries is presented. Global industry structure should be viewed from the perspective of companies' formation of strategic groups, which are based on firms' similar strategic capabilities; and strategic blocks, which are based on firms' similar strategic linkages. Strategic blocks can consist of either firms with different strategies or firms with the same strategies. Research on the automobile industry has indicated that strategic linkages in the industry can be separated into several different strategic blocks.

Are managers from Mars and academicians from Venus? Toward an understanding of the relationship between academic quality and practical relevance
Article Abstract:
A positive relationship between the academic quality and practical relevance of management research reveals that academicians and practioners both value research is interesting and justified which means research that challenges and extends existing beliefs offers compelling evidence for its conclusion. The results lend support to the hypothesized overlap and show a positive association between panel members' global assessment of relevance and ratings of an article's interestingness and justification.
