The multibank holding company effect on cost efficiency in banking
Article Abstract:
Bank holding companies (BHC) are a popular form of bank management. Over 6,400 BHCs controlled 9,4000 banks; 90% of US banking assets in 1988. There are 3 forms of banking organisation: one-bank holding company; multibank holding company and independent. The study examines the method of banking organisation used and its relation to efficiency results. It shows that one-bank holding companies and multi-bank holding companies are a more effective method of management than independent banks, resulting in lower costs.
