The picture in 2015
Article Abstract:
The British government launched the Technology Foresight Programme in 1994 to involve industrialists, academics and government officers in economic planning. The group's task is to explore ways by which the UK can maximize opportunities to promote wealth creation for the next two decades to the year 2015. The project involved the creation of 15 independent industry panels, including one for the financial services industry, and the formulation of several working assumptions to guide scenario planning. With regards to the finance sector, panelists agreed on some of the issues and development that are likely to have a strong impact on the industry over the next 20 years. These include the introduction of technological innovations that will radically transform the financial services sector, and improvements in the management and cost-effectiveness of existing technology.

The prospects for privatization
Article Abstract:
The British government's privatization program has drawn an enthusiastic response from investors in the UK. Subscription to these privatization issues is often the result of aggressive marketing campaigns, rather than a result of a careful reading of a company's prospectus by potential investors. The rules regarding the advertisement of stock flotations, as set down by the Financial Services Act, should be applied to the television and print advertisements that accompany government privatization.
