The post-Q3 case for ICI
Article Abstract:
Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) has been affected by poor prices for bulk chemicals which hit the company's results for 3rd qtr 1996 and its share price. Chemical prices appear to have stabilised. Three brokers from a sample of six rate ICI's shares a buy and the other three are neutral. The buyers are Credit Lyonnais, which argues for a longer term view, Merrill Lynch which sees ICI benefiting from world economic growth in 1997, and Nikko. The holders are Goldman Sachs. Albert E Sharp and NatWest.

ICI after Q3 figures
Article Abstract:
Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) reported an improvement in profit for 3rd qtr 1995, but also faces weaker demand. A survey of six brokers on ICI's share prospects includes Hoare Govett, which sees the shares as undervalued, since some chemical products have not yet reached peak demand. Williams de Broe is less optimistic, seeing the need for major improvements in productivity to retain margins in the group's bulk chemicals operations.
